Enjoying the Holidays after Oral Surgery

November 11th, 2021

Scheduled your oral surgery near the holidays and now you’re worried it will affect your holiday season? Many of us choose to schedule surgery around a break, with good reason. It gives us a chance to rest, relax and heal.

When it’s time to eat holiday meals you just need to be strategic with it. Focus on the softer foods like yams, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, stuffing and peas. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie or cheesecake! The main focus right now is not irritating your mouth with hard and sharp foods. Focus on getting enough fluids, as well.

Keep in mind that you need to give yourself time to relax. This is not the time to join in the family basketball game! Enjoy being a spectator or encourage the family to join you in a board game or a game of cards. Realize that pushing yourself too hard right now might delay healing. If you notice bleeding or swelling increasing, listen to your body telling you you need to slow down. If you are having issues, please review post-op info here or call Rockcliff at 828-255-7781.

Remember, self-care this holiday season is important and recovery will be just around the corner.
